Glass Primary School - 2002

Small rural school, have developed wildlife area with a range of planting, nature trail with information plaques and bird and animal models. Bat boxes and hedgehog box have been made by pupils and installed at suitable locations round the grounds. Practical environmental studies used to bring curriculum to life.

Glen Tanar Estate - 2006

Habitat enhancement for capercaillie. Have undertaken burning and strimming/swiping undergrowth to stimulate blaeberry, a food-plant of capercaillie, and modifying woodland structure to provide feeding and shelter areas. Established an interpretive programme to explain rationale of the works, including website, interpretive panels, leaflets and guided site visits. Project has trialled, and proved, innovative techniques, including controlled burning. Has built capacity and provided new skills for workforce and added to the technical and operational resource of the estate. Has stimulated cross sector working by foresters, game keepers, wildlife managers and interpreters.

Gordon Area Scout Council Camp Site - 1992 (Green Gordon Award)

Yet another fine effort that is turning a piece of woodland that was in danger of losing much of its wildlife potential through the invasion of Sycamore, into a lovely mixed wood once again.

Working with the disposal of other peoples rubbish is a dirty and difficult job, but this department has shown a great deal of initiative in setting up schemes for composting, recycling and reuse of materials.

The Green Grocer, Inverurie - 1998

Once a small greengrocers shop, the premises were taken over and converted into an outlet for a variety of environmental friendly goods. Organic vegetables, washing powder and local produce are all available. The shop not only promotes good environmental practice but it also offers an outlet for local growers

Grampian Television, 'Country Matters' – 1994 (Green Gordon Award)

The very name of this popular programme is what it is all about, yes the country does matter. The show helps to raise people’s awareness of the countryside and the important issues affecting it locally.

Grampian Schools Environmental Monitoring Network - 1993 (Green Gordon Award)

This network based at Dyce Academy fosters environmental projects throughout Grampian schools. This involved Gordon schools in annual weather projects and rural monitoring projects on the Don.
