THAINSTONE HOUSE INVERURIE

Sandy Anderson has over a number of years transformed an area that was once an agricultural field into a superb area for wildlife, creating two ponds, planting trees and hedges. The site is a haven for all sorts of wildlife as well as being aesthetically pleasing.
NEWSEAT COMMUNITY WOODLAND - TILHILL ECONOMIC FORESTRY
On an area of farmland owned by Mr. J. Sorrie, Tilhill have created a fine area of woodland, the site is accessible to all, including wheelchair users. By designing the Rotogate wheelchair users gain access whilst keeping farm animals out.
COUNTRYSIDE FOOTPATHS - HUNTLY LIMITED
Making the countryside more accessible, especially close to the urban areas is a really worthwhile project, and Huntly Ltd have done just that. Various organisations through funding and labour have formalised well marked footpaths around Huntly.
HAUGHTON COUNTRY PARK
This site provides a quiet relaxing area for walking and enjoyment of the countryside. It has recently created a superb wildflower meadow alongside the lovely River Don. The meadow is full of flowers and fine grasses and is managed much the way old hay meadows were.
SWT, ABERDEEN AND KINCARDINE BRANCH
This local branch of the Scottish Wildlife Trust has done a great deal of excellent work in the field of nature conservation throughout the district. They have purchased Gight Wood overlooking the Ythan near Methlick and will manage it for wildlife and people.
BBC OUT OF DOORS RADIO PROGRAMME
This programme, hosted by Freda Morrison, provides a source of information about environmental matters and the countryside. In an imaginatively way it gets the message across in a friendly and cheerful way. It expresses concern about the environment and explains problems in a way easily understood by all.
CRAIGIEVAR SCHOOL WILDLIFE GROUP
Craigievar School this year joins a select band that have improved their local environment for wildlife and themselves. Helped by Lizzy Bacon, Watch Group Leader, they have planted a hedge and formed other wildlife habitats, providing a valuable teaching resource.
SPECIAL AWARDS
This year being the last under the name of Gordon Environmental Forum and the Green Gordon Award changing its name to the Green Butterfly Award it was decided to give out three special awards to people and organisations that have over the years played a valuable role in caring for the environment of Gordon District.

Joint founders of the Forum which would not be the organisation of today if it were not for their inspiration and drive to get the Forum off the ground.
