THAINSTONE HOUSE INVERURIE

PRESENTED BY CHARLIE ALLAN

NICK CHILD, WILDFLOWER MEADOW AND TREE PLANTING
Situated just outside Ellon, this shows what can be done with thought and commitment. A farm field has been turned into a superbly attractive area, both for wildlife and people.

LAURENCE BRAIN, CARING FOR WILDLIFE
This New Deer Vet has worked tirelessly to help a wide range of wildlife from birds and bats to squirrels and seals. He has saved the lives of many animals that come to him from far and wide.

GORDON DISTRICT COUNCIL, ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT
Working with the disposal of other peoples rubbish is a dirty and difficult job, but this department has shown a great deal of initiative in setting up schemes for composting, recycling and reuse of materials.

GRAMPIAN TELEVISION, COUNTRY MATTERS
The very name of this popular programme is what it is all about, yes the country does matter. The show helps to raise peoples awareness of the countryside and the important issues affecting it locally.

BILL JOHNSTON, HELPING WILDLIFE
Bill has been doing his bit to help birds and other animals for years. He raises funds for conservation organisations, makes bird tables, bird and bat boxes, and in between plays an active role in caring for a nature reserve.

STRATHDON PRIMARY SCHOOL, WILDLIFE AREA
The staff and pupils together with parents have created a fine area for wildlife in the school grounds. A wee bird hide overlooks a pond, and many trees have been planted, a real community effort.

INSCH INITIATIVE, WILDFLOWER MEADOWAND WOODLAND
With help from Gordon District Council, residents of Insch have turned a tattie field into a lovely meadow. Young people have also been involved, clearing an adjacent woodland area.

N. E. RIVER PURIFICATION BOARD ( NERPB ), ROAD SHOW EXHIBITION
Created by members of staff, this superb exhibition tours the north-east and shows the importance of keeping our rivers and waterways clean for all life.
