OLD MELDRUM

PRESENTED BY FREDA MORRISON

SLAINS PRIMARY SCHOOL
The pupils at the school worked hard to create a wildlife area within the school grounds. This included planting hedges, making a pond and creating wild flower beds.

GRAMPIANS SCHOOLS ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING NETWORK
This network based at Dyce Academy fosters environmental projects throughout Grampian schools. This involved Gordon schools in annual weather projects and rural monitoring projects on the Don.

WILDLIFE AREA AT KIRKHILL, RASHIERIEVE
Mr & Mrs Caston have turned a small holding into a superb area for wildlife with a pond, tree planting and wildlife meadows taking shape amidst an area of intensive agriculture.

CORGARFF TREE NURSERY PROJECT
Run by a local group of keen amateurs who grow locally native tree species , and also involve the kids from Corgarff school in collecting, cleaning and storing seed. They also work in the tree nursery.

BREDA ESTATE ALFORD
Mr Hamish McLean runs the estate with the good of the environment in mind. He has created ponds and has attracted rare species of fauna to the area. A large area of pinewood considered to be native is the only remnant of Donside. There are plans to start a tree nursery to grow native stock for replanting.

INVERURIE WOODLAND CONTRACTOR
Mr Dave Blishen for his work in forestry, particularly his use of horses to move felled timber and thus reducing the damage to conservation areas caused by conventional methods.
