The Forum is keen to help everyone find out more about environmental matters and the sustainable lifestyle. To this end we arrange occasional visits and events which we hope will be of interest, and will try to flag up other events that may be of interest. Let us know if you're running an event and we'll post it here.

AEF Site Visits

AEF are arranging another series of visits which may be of interest. The current list is below, and more will be added as they are confirmed.

    Visit to: Stoneywood Paper Mill

    Lifts can be arranged from Inverurie or meet at Stoneywood Paper Mill Car Park
    Fresh water is a vital part of papermaking. All incoming water has to be treated to remove bacteria and fine particles. Then all of it, except that lost by evaporation, has to be returned to the river, in accordance with SEPA regulations. In this visit, we will see the relevant water treatment plants, plus a quick look at one of the paper machines.
    Outdoor clothing and sensible shoes will be required. Disposable earplugs will be provided for the tour of the paper machine

    Visit to: Pitcape Environmental Project
    Leader: Colin Stirling
    Visit this growing project, both gardens and sustainable buildings. There will be a short AEF meeting for 1 hour after this visit which will be open to all

    Time: 19:00 - 21:30
    Visit to: Haddo Hydro Sawmill
    Meet: Methlick Village Car park
    This event will be led by Ian Hamilton, Farm Manager, Haddo estate. This will be an ideal opportunity to learn and see how water powers the sawmill on Haddo estate.

The Scottish Countryside Rangers Association (SCRA) have a programme of training courses on a wide variety of topics, from bushcraft to wildlife identification. These courses are open to the general public as well as SCRA members. Find out more here (pdf).
