Energy and Sustainable Housing

Report on Old Rayne EcoHouse Visit - Thursday 23 June 2011
As one of a series of site visits this summer members of Aberdeenshire Environmental Forum called at an Eco-house at Old Rayne.
Owner Councillor Bryan Stuart met the group and gave a guided tour of this unique and spectacular building which has taken 3 years to complete.

Bryan is trying to develop this type of house using affordable housing kits. Incorporating all economical and eco-friendly features, the timber house has a pleasing appearance and blends in well with surrounding more traditional rural buildings and the countryside. Bryan explained that the aim was to have a construction using Scottish timber - Scots pine for the upstairs three bedroom suites and Douglas fir downstairs - giving the whole house a cosy all-enveloping sweet-smelling warmth as soon as the threshold is crossed.
